Hanayo + Tenko’s Cozy Tokyo Apartment

March 21, 2013

Sometimes a happy home doesn’t have anything to do with clean counter tops and an empty laundry basket or flawless ombre-dyed kitchen chairs a la Scandinavian domestic goddesses. I adore the quirky, messy, crowded apartment of photographer Hanayo and her daughter Tenko in Tokyo.

Green plants, mobiles suspended from the ceiling, musical instruments, toys, and sheer fabrics come together  to create a space that’s all about warmth and sentimental value. Home is where the heart is, and where you take off your sparkly shoes at the end of the day. Scroll for more.

Browsing these photos, for me, was a nice break from drooling hopelessly over magazine-perfect pinterest homes (though I love those too). Today, try to forget perfect and just embrace cozy.

As long as your house makes you feel like you’re home, you’ll figure out the rest in time.
