We survived a hurricane party!
With all due respect to anyone who had their property damaged or experience injury/stress during Hurricane Irene (Brooklyn flooding was no joke & New Jersey got slammed), it was probably the most fun weekend of the summer!
Evacuation added an air of adventure to what ended up being a series of stops to the businesses and abodes of our friends, ending up in Bushwick where my friend Natalia was throwing a full blown BBQ dance party. We stayed at that party for over 24 hours (and it didn’t stop when we left, so who knows—they might still be raging). I had fun live tweeting the experience!
Complete with quick sprints through the storm (fun but foolish, do not try at home), Gypsy films, a spontaneous drum circle (yeah, my friends are more than a little bohemian), and really good food, this weekend made me wish storms would force our friends together more often.
Some of my photos of the whole experience are below, including a view of the impending storm from the rooftop of my friend’s restaurant.
All in all, we were left with a warped impression of just how fun natural disaster can be. But that aside, I hope all of you are safe and have emptied the water from your basement and returned to your homes!
